Higher Education, ICT Ministers Witness Signing Protocol to Establish Creativa Innovation Hub in Port Said University

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat witnessed, yesterday, the signing of a protocol of cooperation between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Port Said University, via videoconference, in the presence of the University President Ayman Mohamed.

The aim is to establish a Creativa Innovation Hub in Port Said University to upskill the University’s students and Port Said’s youth, and qualify them in line with the requirements of the labor market in IT and entrepreneurship, thus contributing to building human competencies capable of supporting and developing the ICT industry.

Abdel Ghaffar stressed the importance of establishing Creativa Innovation Hubs in Egyptian universities to help raise awareness of the latest advances in IT, its specializations, and the skills required, in addition to qualifying specialists in digital transformation.

The Higher Education Minister valued the cooperation with MCIT, calling for the continuation of such cooperation to establish Creativa Innovation Hubs in all Egyptian governorates and universities, and reap the fruits of the programs provided at the existing Hubs.

For his part, Talaat underlined the significance of cooperation and concerted efforts between the two Ministries in implementing the Creativa Innovation Hubs project. He explained that the Hubs are being established inside universities to ease youth’s access to them, and leverage the expertise of faculty members in a way that enriches the training process and hones young people’s skills, while providing them with hands-on experiences in ICT.

The protocol builds on previous cooperation with universities to establish Creativa Innovation Hubs in different governorates, in a way that achieves diversification among the governorates of the Canal, Lower Egypt and Upper Egypt, said the ICT Minister.

Moreover, Port Said University President commended MCIT efforts, expressing his pleasure to sign the protocol, which helps promote digital transformation, and utilize information and data.

He added that the protocol will also reflects the state’s digital transformation vision, represented in building Digital Egypt, which is not limited to digitizing government services, but also includes regulating government activities, boosting their performance, and managing policies with information, while providing all the pillars supporting the digital transformation.

The protocol stipulates that MCIT establishes and manages Creativa Innovation Hub in Port Said University, with the aim of providing training services and programs in innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as designing and making various training programs available, providing training material and supporting software, awarding trainees accredited certificates, and establishing and organizing specialized conferences and competitions. This is in addition to supporting and enhancing the university’s role in developing innovative solutions to serve the community, and increasing job opportunities through the projects and applications adopted.

The signatories to the protocol were the Deputy ICT Minister for Infrastructure Raafat Hindy, Port Said University President Ayman Mohamed, in the presence of the Chairwoman of the Information Technology Institute (ITI) Heba Saleh, the Acting Vice President of Port Said University for Graduate Studies and Research Rawya Yahya Rizk, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Hassan Ghattas.

It is worth mentioning that a plan is being implemented to establish 15 Creativa Innovation Hubs in different governorates, in three phases; the first included a pilot operation of five Hubs in Mansoura, Menoufia, Minya, Sohag and South Valley Universities. The second involves establishing Hubs in Ismailia, Aswan, Cairo, Giza and the New Administrative Capital, while the third phase is being planned for establishing Hubs in other governorates. For this, MCIT signed protocols with Benha, Fayoum, and Zagazig Universities to host Creativa Innovation Hubs.
