ICT Minister, India Telecom Secretary Discuss Cooperation in AI, Capacity Building


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has received India’s Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan, to discuss cooperation between the two countries in ICTs, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, smart villages and capacity building.

The meeting was attended by the Indian Ambassador to Egypt, Associate ICT Minister for Networks and ICT Infrastructure Hossam El-Gamal, ICT Minister’s Advisor for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Golestan Radwan, and Director of International Relations Division at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Mohamed El Gawsaky.

During the meeting, Talaat underlined the depth of bilateral ties between Egypt and India in all aspects, especially ICTs, and the significance of cooperation and exchange of experience to leverage digital technology, especially AI and Internet of Things (IoT), and build ICT specialized calibers. He, also, asserted that Egypt supports the concerted efforts to keep up with the rapid technological developments, thus contributing to introducing ICTs in all life aspects.

The meeting discussed a number of ICT topics, and the significance of cooperation between the two countries in common topics featured in international forums, including cooperation in the telecommunications standardization process, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) issues, and the upcoming meetings, including the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC), due to be held in Egypt next October in Sharm El Sheikh.

In addition, the meeting highlighted the significance of enhancing technical cooperation between the two countries in the research and development (R&D) areas pertaining to ICT industry, especially in IoT, blockchain, cybersecurity, machine to machine (M2M) applications, and AI uses in all life aspects, including agriculture, health, education, and smart villages.

Moreover, the two sides agreed on cooperating in research and innovation (R&I), capacity building, training on emerging ICTs, exchanging best practices in licensing and regulation in the electromagnetic field, innovation, entrepreneurship, e-government, and Internet, disaster and spectrum management.

The meeting is part of the visit of a high level Indian delegation to Egypt, on April 18-21, to explore closely the Egyptian ICT sector. The visit program includes meeting with officials from the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), the Information Technology Institute (ITI), the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI), and the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC).
