Workshop of e-Learning for Hearing and Visual Impaired

Egypt ICT Trust Fund affiliated to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), organizes the first workshop of e-learning support project dedicated for the hearing and visual impaired students in Egypt on 19 March 2013.

The project is sponsored by the International Islamic Bank and supported by the Ministry of Education. The workshop takes place at the Civil Education Center in Zamalek, Cairo.

Representatives of civil associations providing services for impaired people, civil society institutions, the Ministry of Education and specialized schools are to attend to the workshop.
Winners of “Tawasol” competition held on the margins of the project are to be announced during the workshop.

The competition targets teachers of special schools and civil society members concerned with impaired children, to select the best teacher and trainer to measure the interaction and ability of teachers and trainers to communicate with visual and hearing impaired students on internet.

Discussions will also entail the importance of information technology in educating impaired children.

The e-learning project aims to improve the living standards of visual and hearing impaired students and ensure their social integration within their schools in Egypt, through the use of IT tools.

This is to strengthen the primary education for the students by developing the technological infrastructure in the special schools and developing the proactive e-content of science and computer curricula for the last two grades, as well as to spread awareness and build teachers and students capacities.

As part of the project’s activities, two special schools for hearing disabled and two others for visual disabled in Cairo and Giza were selected to develop the computer labs and to be provided with updated software for their students.
The project was launched in June 2012 and will end up soon in May 2013.
