Jobs and Skills for PwDs with ICT Based Solutions
In the framework of the Egyptian government's digital inclusion strategies, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), within the Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development Project, has implemented “Jobs and Skills for Persons with Disabilities with ICT-Based Solutions” project in partnership with the International Labor Organization (ILO), and funded by the UN Partnership to Promote the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD).

Phase I (2014-2017)

Objectives:

- Empower PwDs through the use of ICT solutions, with a specific focus on ICT and tourism sectors
- Capacity building for persons with visual or motion disabilities in the fields of:
o Computer Basics
o Graphic Design Fundamentals
o Customer Service and Call Centers
o Management and Entrepreneurship Skills
o Computer and Laptop Maintenance Basics
- Facilitate PwDs employment services and opportunities in the labor market

Geographical scope

The project activities included 13 governorates, including Cairo, Alexandria, Dakahlia, Port Said, Qalyubia, Marsa Matrouh, Minya, Beni Suef, Assiut, Ismailia, Beheira, Menoufia, and the Red Sea.

Phase II (2019-2021)

Objectives:

Enhance coordination amongst key stakeholders at the governorate level on a referral system for social, training and employment services for PwD through:
- Establishing a network between relevant stakeholders, including the National Network for PwD Services (NPD),
- Developing a database of inclusive employment counselors,
- Linking processes and services related to PwDs employment such as registration, career guidance, business start-up services, job matching, training, access to job opportunities.

The Electronic Platform-NPD

The National Network for PwD Services (NPD) is an electronic networking platform which combines the processes and services related to the employment of PwDs in one stop shop. The NPD network depends on active public-private stakeholders, including the Ministry of Manpower (MoM), Ministry of Social Solidarity (MoSS), Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS), employers and workers’ organizations, employment services, training providers, business service providers, Disabled People's Organizations (DPOs), and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
