ICT Minister Discusses Cooperation in ICT with Saudi, Sudanese, Indian, Malaysian Counterparts; Meets UN Secretary-General Envoy on Tech


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat concluded his visit to Bucharest, Romania, Tuesday evening, as part of his participation in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 (PP-22).
 
The ICT Minister held various bilateral meetings with several ministers and senior officials, in the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador to Romania Moayad Eldalie.
 
Talaat met with the Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah bin Amer Alswaha. They followed up on the developments of cooperation projects between the two countries in ICT and discussed enhancing and opening new horizons for cooperation. Both sides also emphasized the significance of coordinating common international situations in related fields, in light of the two countries’ regional and international significant role.
 
The ICT Minister also held a meeting with the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Envoy on Technology Amandeep Singh Gill to discuss strengthening ties with the UN and all its agencies, in light of Egypt’s vision to develop the ICT sector.
 
During the meeting, Gill commended the efforts made by Egypt in digital transformation. He expressed his interest in cooperating with Egypt within the framework of promoting digital cooperation with regard to several international issues. He also invited Talaat to participate in a UN conference on technology in 2024.
 
In a similar vein, the ICT Minister met with the Sudanese Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation Adel Hussein. They discussed the plans of the two countries to achieve digital transformation as well as the means of enhancing cooperation in training so that the Sudanese side would leverage the programs of the Egyptian African Telecom Regulatory Training Center (EG-ATRC). Both sides agreed to develop an implementation plan for the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Sudan and Egypt in June 2021.
 
Hussein expressed his interest in Egypt Post’s experience. He looked forward to sharing the pioneering Egyptian experience with his country.
 
Talaat also met with the Indian Minister of State for Communications Shri Devusinh Chauhan. They discussed means to strengthen bilateral ties between Egypt and India in ICT, especially in areas of capacity-building and international communications infrastructure.
 
The ICT Minister invited the Indian Minister to visit Egypt to closely explore the Egyptian ICT sector.
 
Talaat also met with the Malaysian Minister of Communications and Multimedia Annuar Musa. They agreed on framing the proposed aspects of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in an MoU, covering electronics manufacturing and design.
 
The meetings were attended by the CEO of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) Hossam El-Gamal, Assistant ICT Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy, Assistant ICT Minister for Global Information Infrastructure (GII) Mohamed Nasr Eldin, and various officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).
 
It is noteworthy that the ICT Minister held various meetings with ministries and senior government officials on the sidelines of his participation in ITU PP-22. He also delivered a speech during the Policy Statements session as he reviewed the most significant plans and programs implemented in Egypt, in line with ITU Guidelines.
