ICT Minister Witnesses Signing of MoU between NTI, VMware

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) and VMware international.

The aim is to establish the first regional academy in the Middle East and Africa to provide training on virtual networking skills and security in Egypt. This is to qualify a generation of trainers and trainees specializing in ICTs, to support Egyptian companies in their efforts towards digital transformation.

This comes in line with the vision and strategy of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to qualify calibers capable of leading the desired digital transformation.

The MoU was signed during Cairo ICT 2019, by NTI Director Iman Ashour, and the Country Manager of Egypt, North Africa and Levant at VMware Ahmed El Saadi, in the presence of the Deputy ICT Minister for Human and Institutional Capacity Development and the CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Hala El Gohary.

According to the MoU, NTI will provide the needed technical support for trainers and other institutes, under the umbrella of VMware IT Academy program, promoting access to this type of educational and training programs to provide young people with the necessary technical skills.

The new academy supports Egypt’s strategy 2030 on ICT, through which Egypt seeks to develop the ICT sector to maximize its contributions in the economic growth. It will also develop a specialized educational model using VMware technologies, to be adopted by a number of academic institutions, non-profit organizations and government agencies.

On this occasion, Ashour said that the agreement supports IT students in Egypt by providing the necessary technical training to bridge the gap between education outcomes and the competitive labor market requirements. It also promotes local skills and expertise in ICT.

Egypt acts as an ICT thriving hub, which allows it to provide Africa with the best specialized technical calibers in ICT, added Ashour.

For his part, El Saadi said that the VMware MENA is eager to support the aspirations and goals of the Egyptian ICT sector, through enhancing IT students’ capabilities and potentials, and raising their awareness of VMware solutions.
