MCIT Provides Technology Support to 20 Orphanages


In line with the joint cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Ministry of Social Solidarity to develop the basic infrastructure for the directorates of social affairs, implement smart system to manage donations and back orphanages, MCIT is technologically supporting around 20 orphanages—affiliated to the Ministry of Social Solidarity—with necessary equipment and software to enhance work efficiency. This is in addition to providing training sessions on computers basic skills and behavioral skills for 400 orphans.

Advisor of ICT Minister for Community Services Abeer Shakweer has said MCIT has paid a special attention to implement the role of ICT sector in Egypt to shoulder its responsibility towards the community. Social responsibility business plan, launched in December 2013, was drafted as part of MCIT strategy with the aim of supporting poor and marginalized areas and segments that mostly need to be looked after.

MCIT, with the help of ICT civil society organizations, has procured in less than a year a number of projects including, among others, awareness campaign to rationalize energy use in conjunction with Mobinil; the project of integrated community centers in cooperation with the Cairo Governorate, Cisco, Vodafone, Telecom Egypt and Etisalat Egypt; and tele therapy project of tele therapy in Cairo, Mersa Matrouh, Luxor and South Sinai.

MCIT is cooperating with the Ministry of Social Solidarity in this project and provides a number of training programs for specialists and for children affiliated to the project.
