Egypt Hosts First ICT Egypt-Sweden Forum to Promote Cooperation


Egypt hosts—in Smart Village—the first Egypt-Sweden forum for ICT on December 2-3, organized by Business Sweden and the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden in Cairo and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).

Strengthening ICT cooperation between Egypt and Sweden, the forum launches future initiatives, reflecting Sweden as a strategic partner to Egypt in IT development.

The first deputy, Noha Adly inaugurated the forum at ITIDA premises, Smart Village on behalf of the ICT Minister Atef Helmy, with the Swedish Senior Adviser to the Minister of Trade, Jonas Hafström and the Swedish Ambassador to Cairo, Charlotta Sparre.

The forum aims to discover more opportunities for cooperation between Egypt and Sweden facing similar challenges related to enlarge infrastructure on the geographical level to cover rural areas.

Egypt and Sweden partnership aims to achieve benefits through exchanging expertise and knowledge. During the 2-day discussions, the forum seeks to create ICT partnerships.

According to the ICT Minister speech delivered by his first deputy, Noha Adly, the forum comes in line with the ICT strategy 2020 goals to position Egypt as a regional hub in ICT, establish the knowledge society, digital economy and to make knowledge accessible to all at affordable prices, acquire digital rights, develop ICT industry and achieve global competitiveness, and diffuse entrepreneurship and innovation.

Acquiring an important record in ICT innovation, the Sweden ICT sector is one of the most prominent sectors worldwide, especially in communication, digital economy and e-government.

Decision-makers and ICT sector members in addition to representatives of around 12 Swedish ICT companies, like: Aktavara, Birdstep Technology, Elektroskandia, Sweratel, Talkpool, Wrap and Ericsson, among others, as well as a number of investors interested in the Egyptian market.

A number of bilateral meetings are to be held during the second day of the forum.
