During MWC, ICT Minister Witnesses Signing Two MoUs between TE, Ericsson

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has met with Ericsson Middle East and Africa Vice President and Head of Managed Services Eva Andrén, and Ericsson Egypt Country Manager Sameh Shoukry. This comes as part of his participation in the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2019) in Barcelona.

They discussed Ericsson’s plan to establish a digital service center in Egypt to serve the company's customers in the Middle East and Africa. This will support the digital transformation initiatives in the region, through Egyptian expertise, applying the latest technologies, like Artificial Intelligence (AI), through Ericsson’s platforms and services. This, accordingly, will boost transaction processing between service providers and customers through automation processes, reaching new levels that enhance programming, accessibility and flexibility.

The meeting was attended by Associate Minister for Networks and ICT Infrastructure at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Hossam El-Gamal, Acting CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Maha Rashad, Board Member and Vice President for Spectrum Affairs at the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) El-Sayed Azzouz, and Head of Digital Services at Ericsson Middle East and Africa Indranil Das.

During the meeting, Talaat and Andrén witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Telecom Egypt (TE) and Ericsson, to develop TE main cloud network for providing 5G services.

Launching the 5G technology will help provide new technological services related to the Internet of Things, for individuals as well as corporates. Using Ericsson services, thus TE will be capable of expanding the network to include different services, in addition to offering creative services to the market, and meeting the rapid change in customers and enterprises’ needs.

Talaat and Andrén also witnessed the signing of a MoU between the two companies. The aim is to apply AI to activate cloud communication services, thus operating a smarter and more efficient cloud environment, enabling automation and cloud coordination, especially with using cloud technology in 5G. AI provides an effective way to visualize cloud technology, with the ability to control internal movement within Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI). This is in addition to providing a quick way to detect errors and suggesting practical solutions.

The two MoUs were signed by TE CEO and Managing Director Adel Hamed, and Head of Ericsson Saudi Arabia and Egypt Mathias Johansson.

On this occasion, Hamed said that TE is keen on leading the region in AI and paving the way for new technologies in all its markets. He added that partnering with Ericsson will help TE achieve its strategic goals in enhancing operational effectiveness and customer experience.

Andrén said that this successful experience will help operators distribute AI on a wider range. With using Ericsson’s technology, operators, like TE, are capable of establishing world-class networks and introducing new services faster.
