ICT Minister Receives German Ambassador to Egypt to Discuss Boosting Joint Cooperation in ICTs


The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady has received the German Ambassador to Egypt Julius Luy, where they discussed enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the ICT field, especially in the projects of digital transformation, smart cities, electronics manufacturing and technological innovation.

During the meeting, ElKady highlighted the distinguished relations between Egypt and Germany in various fields, including joint cooperation in the ICT field. He stated that a delegation of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) is currently preparing for a visit to Germany within the next month.
The ICT Minister also ascertained that investing in qualifying human calibers and supporting technological innovation is one of the main pillars of the ICT sector strategy till 2025 through deploying technology parks nationwide. This is in addition to establishing technology innovation clusters in Egyptian universities; implementing the Next Technology Leaders (NTL) presidential initiative, to build the capacities of young people in the ICT fields and electronics; and providing training to school students on the latest technologies and programming basics. He also referred to the great developments made in Egypt in the ICT field, especially those related to technology innovation and entrepreneurship.

ElKady also reviewed the projects implemented by MCIT to move towards the digital transformation of society in cooperation with all ministries, agencies and bodies in the country, the most important of which are the project of integrating national databases and the projects aimed at improving the efficiency of government services provided to citizens using ICT tools.

He also referred to the state's strategy to build smart cities, based on modern technological systems and the most important achievements of Egypt to implant the electronics industry. This is in addition to the State's plans to attract new investments and enhancing the technological industry within the presidential initiative "Egypt Makes Electronics" which resulted in manufacturing the first Egyptian mobile phone with 45% local components.
 
For his part, Luy welcomed the visit, set to be paid by MCIT delegation, headed by the ICT Minister, during the next month. The agenda will include visiting research, education and training centers, and holding a number of meetings with major German ICT companies.
