Tutorial on ‘Leveraging Int’l Standards to Advance Climate-Neutral Cities’ to Kick off at COP 27

Tutorial on Leveraging International Standards to Support the Advancement of Climate-Neutral Cities

At the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27), a “Tutorial on Leveraging International Standards to Support the Advancement of Climate-Neutral Cities” is held on November 10 as part of the agenda of Science Day. It takes place at 03:00-04:00 PM, at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Pavilion in the Green Zone. The session will be streamed online via: https://zoom.us/j/93433933427.

The session will bring together officials from MCIT, the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). They will explore a number of topics, including how digital technologies enable cities to address urban complexities and infrastructure by optimizing energy and water efficiency to improve circularity, and the role of digital transformation in making cities smarter and more sustainable, helping address environmental issues, and reducing global emissions.

Key international standards and best practices that can help leverage digital technologies to push the carbon-neutral agenda for cities and communities will be discussed during the session. It will cast light on available tools, resources and the needed actions to reduce cities’ environmental impact and advance sustainable digital transformation.

With the theme, ‘Together for implementation,’ COP 27 is taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh, marking 30 years since the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was adopted. The ‘Conference of the Parties’ brings together governments, civil society, businesses, and international organizations to discuss how to jointly address climate change and its impacts.
