Egypt Efforts for ‘Reducing Carbon Footprint of Postal Operations’ Highlighted at COP 27


‘Sustainability Commitment towards Climate Protection; Reducing Carbon Footprint of Postal Operations through Digital Mail Box’


A panel discussion titled “Sustainability Commitment towards Climate Protection; Reducing Carbon Footprint of Postal Operations through Digital Mail Box” is held within the framework of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27) in Sharm El Sheikh.
 
The panel discussion is organized on November 17 as part of the agenda of the Solutions Day. It is held at 01:00-02:00 PM at the Egyptian Pavilion in the Blue Zone and at 03:00-04:00 PM at MCIT Pavilion in the Green Zone. The session will be streamed online via: https://zoom.us/j/98837449881.
 
Government main partners include the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), Egypt Post, the Danish Agency for Digitization, and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities in Denmark.  Officials from Egypt Post, the Danish Agency for Digitization, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities in Denmark, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the private sector, civil society organizations and academia will join the discussion. The panel discussion will explore how Egypt Post works to digitize postal services and adopt the digital postbox, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the national digital transformation strategy.
 
Participants will discuss the role of digital platforms in ensuring equality and transparency, facilitating nationwide access to secure communications, protecting people’s privacy through end-to-end encryption, enhancing inclusiveness, building trust within the public sector, and ensuring smooth business operations through reliable digital postal services.
 
Moreover, the panel discussion will cast light on Egypt’s efforts to fulfill certain goals by digitizing post and certified mail services. The goals include going green, cutting expenses (paper, ink, printers…etc.), building resilience to serve citizens in all parts of the country, and adopting more digital policies, helping fight and curb corruption.
 
Success stories of some European nations, most notably Denmark, in digitizing the Post will be shared throughout the discussion.
 
COP 27 is held on November 6-18 in the green city of Sharm El-Sheikh, under the presidency of the Egyptian state. The Conference brings countries together to act towards achieving the world’s collective climate goals as agreed under the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
