Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), is participating in the inauguration ceremony of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2022, held from March 15 to June 3, under the theme “ICTs for Well-Being, Inclusion and Resilience: WSIS Cooperation for Accelerating Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
The Forum is co-organized by International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in close collaboration with all WSIS Action Line Facilitators/Co-Facilitators.
The WSIS Forum represents the world's largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community. It provides a platform for multistakeholder cooperation, information exchange and implementation of the WSIS Action Lines to ensure that ICTs remain a key enabler in achieving the globally agreed SDGs.
The WSIS Forum 2022 will encompass a number of special tracks, which showcase the application of ICTs across specific demographics. This year’s special tracks are: ICTs and Youth; ICTs and Gender Mainstreaming; ICTs for Industry 4.0 and Emerging Technologies special track; ICTs for Well-being, Happiness and Peace; ICTs and Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities and Specific Needs; ICTs and Older Persons; ICTs and Indigenous Peoples and Cultures; ICTs for Developing and Least Developed Countries; and ICTs for Sport.
The Forum will, also, feature a variety of events, including WSIS Prizes 2022, the Healthy Ageing Innovation Prize, two hackathons: “ICTs for Indigenous Languages” and “Designing a Sustainable Future using ICTs,” special initiatives, talks and panel discussions joined by dignitaries, senior officials and prominent figures from the ICT industry.
