ICT Trust Fund Participates in Egypt Urban Forum


Egypt ICT Trust Fund took part in Egypt Urban Forum (EUF) held on June 14 -16 with a panel discussion entitled “The Role of ICT in Urban Planning and Urban Service Delivery”. The forum is organized by United Nations Human Settlements Programme in Egypt, in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Development under the slogan “My City, My Responsibility”.

ICT Trust Fund National Director Hoda Dahroug has showcased the fund’s developmental experience using ICT since it started in 2002. ICT Trust Fund was jointly established by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). She has spoken about its role in developing remote and most deprived areas, in line with MCIT strategy for promoting the national economy and activating the digital citizenship across the country.

Dahroug has also presented pioneering comprehensive developmental models that MCIT implemented through ICT Trust Fund projects and initiatives in Siwa Oasis, Nuba and North Sinai in accordance with mechanisms, policies and services. Those projects and initiatives were characterized by innovation and creativity in planning and execution in all pillars of development such as education, health, small and medium projects, women empowerment and supporting youth in entrepreneurship.
She has underlined the success of innovative technology solutions represented in ICT Trust Fund projects in a number of fields including illiteracy eradication. This is in addition to supporting people with disabilities (visual and hearing) by developing educational computer, Arabic, math and English curricula for fifth and sixth grades.

Moreover, she has praised new access tools adopted by MCIT through ICT Trust Fund projects such as telecentres which helped ICT services reach remote areas most recent of which are Halayeb and Shalateen.

Dahroug has highlighted MCIT continuous efforts in supporting the improvement of developmental solutions which in turn help in solving societal problems most prominent of which is the development of remote medical diagnosis systems through a group of consultant practitioner located in Cairo who help diagnose patients’ diseases in remote areas through the internet.
