The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council Working Group meetings will be held in Geneva from 23 January to 6 February 2015. The groups are to hold their first meetings and Egypt is to participate in some of them.
The first group attended is the Council Working Group on Child Online Protection, which is presided by Egypt since 2007. In the last Plenipotentiary Conference, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) presented a proposal within the joint Arab proposals to introduce modifications to resolution 179 related to the subject matter. MCIT delegation took part in discussions held and the Egyptian amendments were approved.
The second group is the Council Working Group on languages concerned with using the six official languages of the union. MCIT presented a proposal to the Plenipotentiary Conference to amend resolution 154 which was approved and the group was assigned with completing the project of integrating Arabic terms in ITU terminology database.
The third group is the Council Committee on the preparation of the 150th Anniversary Celebration. It is the group responsible for preparing for the celebration held by the ITU and coordinating celebrations that could be held on the regional and national levels.
The last group is the Council Working Group on options for the Union's headquarters over the long term. Discussions on this topic took place during the ITU session in 2014 which concluded to inviting the ITU secretary general to conduct a detailed study including all related financial issues to available options.
