e-Waste Safe Disposal National Campaign Launches in SV


Under the patronage of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Ministry of Environment and in the framework of the Green Technology program, the International Technology Group-in cooperation with the administration of Smart Village-is to launch the national campaign for safe and clean disposal of e-waste on 14-18 September in Smart Village.

The campaign seeks to prompt citizens to take part by giving them in-kind gifts such as electricity lamps and LCD TVs. Until December 2016, the company plans to hold 28 events across Egypt in various places such as universities, schools, sports clubs and youth centers. Smart Village is the inauguration point for the national campaign.

MCIT calls on everybody for positive participation to get rid of useless e-waste which could possibly be the cause of serious illnesses as a result of acquisition at home or uncontrolled disposal as 70% of heavy metals including mercury, cadmium and tin, which are located in landfills come from e-waste. These metals and other toxic e-components contaminate groundwater.

e-waste poses threat to humans’ welfare for it contains toxic substances harmful to people and the environment. Electronics comprise more than one thousand chemical element including chlorinated solvents, polyvinyl chloride, heavy metals, plastic materials and gases.
