Workshop on PWDs Empowerment

On the sidelines of the WSIS+10 High-Level event taking place in Geneva, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology organized a workshop on empowering People with Disabilities (PWDs) entitled: “ICT and PWDs in Egypt: empowerment and integration” on June 9th.

The workshop aimed at highlighting ICT as an enabling tool for PWDs empowerment and improving their quality of lives, through achieving equality in education, training and employment, while confirming the success of the Egyptian experience in this regard through paying attention to PWDs view the increase of the population with different forms of disabilities to 12 million.

The participating experts showcased Egypt’s achievements, for example: the technical equipping of public schools to match the needs of visually impaired students, 23 centers for people with special needs in public universities, ICDL certificates, while providing ongoing training, and continuing the digitization of some educational curricula for deaf and visually impaired people in addition to other projects within the framework of “Tamkeen Initiative”.

The workshop received a number of Egyptian and international experts and was open to the public where a fruitful discussion reflected the international attention towards the PWDs issue.
