Third Annual ICT for PWD Conference Next Week

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) organizes the annual ICT for People with Disabilities (PWDs) Conference on Sunday April 13.

The conference witnesses a large local and international presence and the participation of civil society and PWD organizations.

The Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb will attend the event accompanied by the Minister of ICT Atef Helmy, and with presence of ITU-standardization sector head Malcom Johnson, head of the EU delegation to Egypt Ambassador James Moran, the National Council for PWDs President Hossam El-Massah. This is in addition to the Minister of Education, the Governor of Cairo and a number of Egyptian universities’ presidents.

The conference is of such  great importance in view of the prominent role played by MCIT in ITU meetings, taking into consideration the Egyptian leading experience in adapting technology to the uses of people with disabilities.

On the sidelines of the conference, an exhibition will showcase the IT companies’ innovative ideas and projects directed to PWDs that were produced during Tamkeen competition launched by MCIT last year.

The event is organized with the sponsorship of the European Union (EU), the League of Arab States, the International Labor Organization (ILO) and Telecom Egypt (TE).

During the occasion, TE, through its internet provider, TE Data, launches Ma’ak (With You) initiative to provide customer care services in sign language. The initiative started with employing and training 10 disabled candidates to qualify them to provide excellent service with video-call technique through TE official website, thus providing a reliable tool of communication for TE customers and help their integration into the society.

A preparatory workshop, entitled “Employment Integration for PWDs” is to take place on Saturday April 12, under the supervision of MCIT, the sponsorship of ILO and with the participation of Egyptian, Arab and European experts.
