Egypt Post to host 2nd Euromed Post Convention 2010

Egypt’s Mediterranean city of Alexandria will host the 2nd Euromed Postal Convention during the time from September 28-29, 2010. Egypt Post will organize the event.

Held under the auspices of the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel, the Euromed Postal Convention 2010 will be attended by over 100 prominent figures in the industry from the region, together with heads of post companies and organizations.

The attendees are expected to include Universal Postal Union (UPU) Director General Edward Dayan and CEO and Managing Director of Poste Italiane Massimo Sarmi.

Egyptian National Post Organization (ENPO) Chairman Dr. Ashraf Zaki noted that the event aims at boosting the Euromed partnership in the domain of postal services between the European Union (EU) and the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean states.

The convention will also surpass traditional forms of cooperation that are not just based on mere discussions, Dr. Zaki added.

According to the ENPO Chairman, the convention will seek to offer the participating organizations the chance to exchange expertise and the best practices.

Such endeavors will in turn help enhance the revenues of the postal organizations and provide innovative, high quality services that meet the needs of the clients of the Mediterranean countries through supporting economic development and integration.

Another purpose of the convention is to reinforce the role of the national post organizations in the region to withstand competition with the private sector.

Dr. Zaki further noted that the convention agenda includes discussions on the economic impact of the postal sector on the region as well as the quality of the various components of the postal services.

Dr. Zaki added that other topics to be addressed during the two-day meeting would cover technological partnerships among the Mediterranean countries and the services directed to small and medium enterprises (SME)s as well as the region’s overseas labor.

The convention is expected to conclude by signing an agreement for founding the Euromed Postal Union among the region’s countries.
