Unit 1
Fundamentals of Cellular Communication and CDMA networks (4 days)
Objectives:
This course has been designed specifically to cover the needs and essentials for CDMA networks. This course provides in-depth coverage of the CDMA radio link used in Cellular networks. Upon completion, you will be able to explain the principles of CDMA technology, including the concepts of direct sequence spreading, processing gain, the use of PN sequences and orthogonal Walsh codes, RAKE receivers, and quadrature modulation. You also will be able to identify and explain the various stages of signal processing, from speech coding through modulation, used in both uplink and downlink directions. In addition, you will also be able to explain how CDMA RF carrier channels are deployed in both Cellular and PCS frequency bands, and list the various types of logical channels used to carry user information and set up and control calls.
Topics:
Principles of Multiple Access Technologies.
Principles of Direct Sequence CDMA
Transmission and recovery of CDMA signals
The RAKE receiver
Speech processing, channel coding, interleaving, encryption and scrambling
Use of PN long codes, PN short codes, and Walsh functions
Use of quadrature spreading and QPSK modulation
Fundamental channels for telecommunications traffic and control
Reverse channels for telecommunications traffic and control
CDMA Key technology
Power control Algorithm
Handoff Strategies
