spectrum of stakeholders in Egypt’s international relations were received in
Egypt in 2006, with the purpose of maintaining relationships, creating new
partnerships, and opening new avenues of development.

Greek Minister of Communications and Transport
February 2007
Greek Minister of Communications and Transport Mr. Michalis Liapis and
his accompanying delegation were received in the Smart Village where they met
with Dr. Tarek Kamel during which they signed a Joint Declaration on
cooperation, which follows the MoU signed earlier in October 2006 on the
sidelines of the IGF held in Athens.
U.S. Congressional Staff Delegation
February 2007
The fifth visit of the U.S. Congressional Staff Delegation encompassed
a tour inside the Smart Village and a visit to the Center for Documentation of
Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT).
African Ambassadors Delegation
February 2007
Ambassadors of Uganda, Senegal, Kenya, and Burundi were received in
the Smart Village. The visit included a meeting with International Relations
officials at MCIT.
Executive Deputy Chairperson of NEPAD e-Africa Commission
February 2007
The visit of Dr. Henri Chasia, Executive Deputy Chairperson of NEPAD
e-Africa Commission encompassed a tour at the Smart Village in addition to the
conduction of a meeting with MCIT’s International Relations Officials. This
visit came in line with Egypt's sincere commitment to extend its involvement in
NEPAD e-Africa initiative.
Delegation of Commonwealth Ambassadors and BEBA Members

The delegation was received in the Smart Village where they met with
Dr. Tarek Kamel to discuss means of boosting bilateral cooperation between in
the ICT field. They had a tour of the Smart Village where they visited CULTNAT
and Xceed Contact Center.
Ghana Delegation

The delegation, headed by Mr. Kwasi Adu-Gyan, ICT Advisor to Ghanaian
Minister of Communications was received at the Smart Village where they held a
meeting with MCIT top officials to explore means of Egyptian- Ghanaian
collaboration in the ICT field.
South Korean Ambassador to Egypt
January 2007
The visit of H.E. Mr. Dal-ho CHUNG encompassed holding meetings with
ITIDA officials and MCIT’s International Relations officials, in addition to a
tour at the Smart Village. Accompanying the Ambassador were the regional
representatives of KOICA and KADO.
US Trade Representative Office
January 2007
The delegation was received in the Smart Village where they met with
high officials from MCIT and its affiliate organizations: NTRA and ITIDA. The
visit also encompassed a tour of the Smart Village.
US Deputy Secretary of Commerce
January 2007
The visit of Dr. David Sampson, US Deputy Secretary of Commerce
included a meeting with Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of CIT to follow up on the
minister’s mission to the U.S. held in 2006.
U.S. Congressional Staff Delegation
December 2006
The fourth visit of the U.S. Congressional Staff Delegation
encompassed a tour inside the Smart Village where they visited Xceed Contact
Center and the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage
(CULTNAT), in addition to holding meetings with top officials from MCIT and the
National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA).
NASSCOM Delegation
December 2006
The delegation was received by Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Nazif in the
presence of Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of CIT where the two sides conferred
means of bilateral tiers in the IT industry development field in view of Dr
Kamel's visit to India the week before. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was
signed with SATYAM, a NASSCOM affiliate. The visit also encompassed a
networking reception with Egyptian ICT business community.

The delegation, headed by the European Union Commissioner to External
Trade Mr. Peter Mandelson, had a tour of the Smart Village, namely Xceed
Contact Center, Alcatel and Ericsson.

The delegation was received in the Smart Village to draw up an action plan for
cooperation with MCIT within research and development in ICT. Agenda includes
development of natural language processing, wireless technology, and e-content.

Meetings were held between respective ministers of MCIT, the Ministry of
Education, and Ministry of Higher Education to share knowledge and present the
Egyptian Education Initiative.
