    Last Updated: 02 Jul 2019
Youth Employment Generation program was organized with the Japanese government as one of the new powerful partners who had the necessary fund to tackle such problem especially among youth. The program falls under the local economic development pillar which supports the creation of a healthy competitive business environment for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and social entrepreneurs and increase jobs for youth using ICTs through means of human development, innovative technologies, Knowledge sharing and partnership.

The program was established to help reduce high levels of youth unemployment and to close the gap between the skills possessed by young people and those required by employers. The program offers young people vocational, IT and soft skills training to raise their employability. It is an internship mechanism to connect them with private sector companies, and possibilities for financial support to establish their own businesses.

The program includes the following tracks:

§ ICT for MSMEs: The ICT for Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Development in Egypt (MSMEs) program reaches out to MSMEs to promote entrepreneurship and generate employment in the private sector. Egypt Information and Communication Technology Trust Fund (ICT-TF) promotes communication and the establishment of links between MSMEs through the Ayadina community development portal – www.ayadina.net – and encourages participants to exchange information and experience.
§ Kayanak program: Provides online training for MSME owners aged 21-45 in the areas of project management, e-marketing, sales and customer service, as well as in the use of knowledge creation tools and other relevant ICTs. Kayanak portal is www.kayanak.net.
§ Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Program: A program that provides vocational training including IT and soft skills, engineering, programming and web design in vocational schools across Egypt. The program, which is a partnership between ICT-TF and Microsoft Egypt, is to expand through the existing networks of partner NGOs and make use of training curricula and ICT-based literacy programs provided by ICT-TF, IT Clubs, Telecentres and computer laboratories in schools.

§ Respond to the urgent needs of unemployed youth (less than 35 years of age) in Egypt, who account for approximately 90% of unemployed Egyptians, according to the Egyptian Human Development Report 2010 (EHDR)
§ Address the mismatch between private sector skills demands and youth skills by providing them with necessary vocational, IT and soft skills to increase their employment
§ Help young people by providing them with technical and financial support to establish their own businesses
§ Create a channel between private sector companies and young people looking for jobs to access internship opportunities and join the job market
