For the first time, Egypt hosts the 20th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) from 16–23 August under the auspices of President Hosni Mubarak.  IOI is an annual informatics competition for youths under 20 and is considered one of the most recognized computer science contests in the world.

Egypt's trade mission to Canada and the United States was one of the most successful and productive missions in years, resulting in the signing of 11 MoUs, creating more than 1000 new job opportunities for Egyptian calibers.

For the third consecutive time, Egypt participates in CeBIT Hanover 2007 through showcasing the latest ICT products of 13 Egyptian ICT companies, joining a round-table discussion on the future of ICT and technological creativity and holding meetings with heads of world's leading ICT organizations.

"The Shape of Things to Come", this year’s theme of Cairo ICT 2007, came into reality by introducing Egypt's third mobile network (Etisalat-Egypt), launching 3G services for the first time in Egypt and offering Microsoft's Windows Vista and Office System 2007 for users.

Nile University is the first university in Egypt and the region that is specialized in graduate ICT education and research. The University is a partnership between the civil society (EFTED), the government (MCIT), and the CIT Industry.

An official ministerial delegation headed to China as part of Egypt's plan to boost bilateral cooperation in the ICT field. The visit encompassed Egypt's participation in ITU Telecom World 2006 in addition to inking three MoUs with the Chinese side.
