The International Youth Forum witnessed today the launching ceremony of the Cyber Peace Initiative in the city of peace, Sharm el Sheik.
The initiative aims at empowering the use of ICTs to spread a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and dialogue among youth. It aspires to set a new momentum for communication with the young generation and to empower their socioeconomic and political participation in their own communities.
H.E. the First Lady of Egypt, Founder and President of the Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement, distinguished guests and youth participants of the International Youth Forum; Youth Speak, We Listen, witnessed the launching event.
A partnership agreement was signed between the Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement, the International Telecommunication Union, the UN Global Alliance for ICT and Development, Microsoft International, and Cisco Systems, and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Egypt, to drive the Initiative forward and activate it on the regional and international levels.
The signing ceremony was witnessed and attended by Dr. Tarek Kamel, Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, H.E. Dr. Hamadoun I. Toure, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union, and signatories were Dr. Taher Helmy, Board Member and Secretary of the Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement on behalf of the Movement; Dr. Hoda Baraka, First Deputy to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr. Ebrahim Haddad, ITU Regional Representative signed on behalf of he ITU, as well as Dr. Sarbuland Khan, Executive Coordinator of the UN Global Alliance for ICT and Development to Mr. Jean Phillippe Courtois, President Microsoft International and Mr. Yasser el Kadi, Managing Director, Cisco Systems Middle East and Africa. |
