Participants of the Regulation in the Era of Convergence conference called for convergence of Communications and Information Technology (CIT) with Mass Media stressing the importance of creating the proper legislative and executive environment necessary for convergence applications that have become more common globally lately.
The conference confirmed Egypt’s promising market for convergence technology growth in different services in light of availability of strong infrastructure and professional expertise in the country’s CIT sector along with the existence of several qualified communications companies. Besides, the country’s regulatory body assists and facilitates change in the telecommunications sector towards more service convergence.
As a result of the conference, attendees called for further liberalization of Egypt’s telecommunications market and more competition and transparency in license granting as well as increasing efforts to preserve intellectual property rights. The conference was hosted by National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) from March 27-29 in Sharm El Sheikh where several legislators and executive regulators attended along with top executives of private CIT companies and representative from media sources from all over the world. |
