EEI Wins Technology in Government in Africa (TIGA) Award
Date Published: 07 May, 2007

Accredited for its innovation in taking Africa forward in the field of information and Communications Technology (ICT), the Egyptian Education Initiative was honored the 2007 Technology in Government in Africa (TIGA) award in the “improved educational services through the use of ICT” category  at a glittering ceremony in Addis Ababa.

EEI award winning was based on the recognition of its achievement in enabling students, teachers and administrators to build new skills using a new Educational approach integrating IT, promoting IT literacy in education in preparatory schools through increased IT accessibility.

The judges commended this project that "It has great impact on enhanced education process management improved teaching and learning skills and improved teaching material delivery. And it is using innovative ways to improve education material and delivery in rural areas".

TIGA Awards aim to recognize the work of African Governments in the effective use of ICTs for public services delivery for improving the provision of better services to citizens, civil society organizations, and the private sector in an efficient, transparent, and effective manner.

The awards fell into four categories: public service delivery to citizens or communities; improved health services through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT); improved educational services through the use of ICT; and Public Private Partnership in economic and financial e-services delivery.

Egyptian Education Initiative (EEI) was launched at the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Sharm El Sheikh last May under the auspices of Egypt’s first lady Ms. Suzanne Mubarak with the aim of improving the quality of education using ICT tools.
