Egypt’s ICT activities and create the bonds that are crucial for effective
bilateral and international relationships. Ministerial missions and official
delegations spread widely, with emphasis on cooperation and the exploration of
new concepts in the use of ICT in development.

to Davos
January 2007
The
ministerial mission to Davos entailed participating in the World Economic
Forum Annual Meeting held from 24-28 January where
Egypt
contributed to the sessions “Partnerships for Education-Building a Model
for the Future” and “Arab Health Initiative” by presenting the latest
developments of the Egyptian Education Initiative (EEI) and the Egyptian
Health Initiative (EHI).

The
ministerial mission to Hong Kong entails signing an MoU with Chinese
Ministry of Information Industry and participation of
Egypt in the ITU Telecom World in
Hong Kong (4-8 December
2006).

The
ministerial mission to
India
aimed at reinforcing the
bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in ICT
research and development, training, internet security, postal services and
telecom regulations and policies.
Mission to IST 2006: Strategies for Leadership
November 2006
An official delegation from the ministry and its affiliates is
attending the event in Helsinki, representing Egypt as one of six non-EU
countries, under the banner of ‘A New Era for ICT in Egypt: R&D Promises
and Challenges’. The delegation participated in workshops and open discussions,
and presented its project, Culturama.

Greece
October 2006
The visit
encompassed participating in the inaugural meeting of the Internet
Governance Forum (IGF) held from October 30 - November
2 in Athens and signing an
agreement with the Greek side in the domains of fiber optics centers,
operating international portals, European Union’s programs of ICT and
e-content, e-learning, research and development (R&D), technology
incubators and technology development funds.
Mission to Tripoli-Libya
July 2006
An Official Delegation represented MCIT in the second Ordinary
Plenipotentiary Session and its related meetings held in Tripoli-Libya, 9-17
July 2006. The meetings included the Special Session of the Administrative
Council 9-11 July (open to Council Members), the Meeting of the Conference
Preparatory Committee 12-15 July (open to all Member States at Experts level)
and the second Ordinary Session of the Conference of Plenipotentiaries 16-17
July (duly accredited delegations of Member States headed by the ministers in
charge of telecommunications in each country).

An
official delegation from the ministry attended the Global Knowledge
Partnership (GKP) Africa – MENA Workshop organized by UNECA and held in
Addis
Ababa
. The workshop aimed to increase governmental
involvement in its activities.

Commission principally aimed at reinforcing ties with the European Unio,
particularly
the Directorate General for Information Society and Media
. Based around increasing cooperation in legislation and regulatory policy, the
agenda set to further the goals of the Barcelona Process and to advance the
Egypt – EU Action Plan within the European Neighborhood policy.

June 2006
A continuation of dialogue on reform in Egypt and cooperation in the ICT sector
with government officials and US Congress. Also meetings were held with private
sector companies on investment opportunities, and with USAID regarding ICT
progress. Discussions were also held with Egyptian expatriates to invite
cooperation, and UN officials to discuss WSIS follow up, Internet Governance
and Egypt’s role in the Global Alliance.

Organized by the NEPAD council, the conference included governmental,
non-governmental, and private sector members, to explore bilateral
opportunities in infrastructure and training
Mission to ICT Government Summit, South Africa
May 2006
The conference, attended by several ministers, explored the effectiveness and
development of ICT in government.
Mission to Ministry of Technology Development, Malaysia February 2006
Meetings were held to further the cooperation of natural language processing,
e-content, and wireless technology.
