MCIT, New Valley Sign Protocol for Telemedicine Services, Community Centers Development

    Cairo, 8 August 2017

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady witnessed, today, the signing ceremony of a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the New Valley governorate through which MCIT is to support five telemedicine units and another five integrated comprehensive community centers to serve citizens.

The protocol is within the framework of implementing MCIT strategy aimed at adapting ICT tools to serve the community, contributing to providing appropriate health services, building the technological capabilities of youth in these areas and integrating Persons with Disabilities (PwDS).

The two-year agreement was signed by the Governor of New Valley Mohamed Al Zamlout, and the ICT Minister’s Advisor for Social Responsibility and Services Abeer Shakweer.

In this context, ElKady ascertained that MCIT seeks to deliver advanced technological services nationwide, especially border governorates, develop telemedicine units and equip integrated community centers technologically to provide health services to citizens in many governorates and disseminate this successful experience nationwide.

For his part, Al Zamlout hailed MCIT efforts, especially those exerted in projects provided to serve the citizens of the New Valley — a governorate with large areas between cities and villages compared to its low population density. He referred to the significance of ICT role in implementing the development plans of the governorate to develop and improve services provided to citizens.

Shakweer also pointed out that this agreement is within MCIT strategy for social responsibility, based on several areas, the most important of which is providing excellent training and capacity building services and adapting ICT tools to serve the community.

The agreement stipulates that MCIT— through agreeing with a number of international companies specialized in the fields of technology training— is to provide training services on various technological programs for the youth of the governorate and PwDs trained in the integrated community centers. Those centers are composed of halls equipped with hardware, software and projectors to facilitate the training process for PwDS.

The agreement aims to serve the citizens of the New Valley Governorate, where the telemedicine project offers an advanced medical service using ICTs that enable citizens to obtain services by senior professors and consultants without the burden of moving to the central hospitals in the governorate, especially that the New Valley Governorate is one of the vast-areas governorates.

The agreement includes the provision of medical services through equipping health units in small villages with remote treatment devices, linked to the central hospital via video conference, and through physicians trained on the use of telemedicine techniques.
