The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady talked about—in his speech delivered at the opening session of the eighth Telecom Review Summit, held in Beirut, Lebanon under the patronage of the Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Elhariri and in the presence and participation of the Lebanese Telecommunications Minister Jamal Jarrah, as well as telecoms CEOs and industry leaders in the region and the world—the developments made in Egypt’s ICT sector. He highlighted the launching of a number of mega projects aimed at promoting technology in the country and providing a strong telecommunications infrastructure, thereby contributing to enhancing the use of technological solutions to achieve sustainable development and to transfer to digital economy.
Additionally, he conferred the successful achievement of a new regulatory framework for the telecommunications sector in order to keep abreast of the continuous developments in the telecommunication services provided to citizens and to ensure their availability in high quality and at reasonable prices.
In his speech, ElKady said that the ICT strategy for big data aims to make Egypt a hub for giant and big data where agreements were actually sealed with a number of international companies, specialized in the establishment and management of big data clusters, to establish a presence in the Egyptian market, benefiting from Egypt's competitive advantages, notably the geographical location and the marine cables. He also referred to the initiatives adopted by the Ministry of Communications and information Technology (MCIT) to develop the appropriate legislative framework for cybersecurity and combating cybercrimes to protect privacy and digital identity.
On the sidelines of his visit to Beirut, ElKady met with the Lebanese Telecommunications Minister Jamal Jarrah, where they discussed means of enhancing cooperation and exchanging experiences in the ICT field.
In the same context, ElKady is due to hold other meetings with representatives of a number of companies to discuss investment in the Egyptian ICT market.
The ICT Minister is participating in the Telecom Review Summit, held under the theme "It’s All about Smart Networking", gathering up those interested in the communications industry and major international companies to discuss the latest technology trends and markets, and shed light on the continuous developments and challenges facing the telecommunications industry. The Summit tackles a number of topics related to the global telecommunications sector, most important of which are mobile fifth generation technology, big data, privacy protection and online content.
