ICT Minister Witnesses Signing Two Agreements between TE, Etisalat Misr in Texting, Infrastructure, Fixed-Mobile Interconnection

    Cairo, 1 June 2020

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has witnessed, via videoconference, the signing of two new agreements between Telecom Egypt (TE) and Etisalat Misr in texting services, infrastructure and fixed-mobile interconnection.

The first agreement focuses on developing TE business model for texting services and infrastructure. This is the first time that Etisalat Misr and TE sign a long term agreement involving an annual commitment to infrastructure services. The EGP two billion, three and a half year agreement allows Etisalat Misr to keep providing the best offers and mobile services to its customers in Egypt.

The two companies, in addition, signed an agreement in fixed-mobile interconnection, representing the first-of-its-kind business agreement for such services, between TE and Etisalat Misr, and the second-of-its-kind for TE in the Egyptian market.

Talaat highlighted the unprecedented huge responsibility that the ICT sector is shouldering as a result of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) crisis, a situation that has become a new reality and expected to last even after COVID-19 is over. He said that the increasing reliance on ICT in all the sectors and businesses was inevitable, representing a challenge faced by the ICT sector employees and requiring more work and investment to enable the sector to fulfill its mandate.

The ICT Minister, also, commended the collaboration between the two companies, which would contribute to achieving a positive impact on the ICT sector, the two companies and the citizens.

TE CEO and Managing Director Adel Hamed said that TE was pleased to sign the two agreements with Etisalat Misr, especially the one on texting services and infrastructure, which proves that TE long term business model is the best for all the telecommunication companies operating in the local market.

TE had infused massive investments in its infrastructure to meet the ongoing increase in data usage in Egypt, the rewards of which TE reaps during the hard times that the whole world is currently going through, said Hamed. The agreement targeted leveraging TE investments in the infrastructure, serving all the companies operating in the Egyptian telecommunications market, thus enriching the Egyptian market through providing various services and improving the service quality, Hamed added.

Etisalat Misr CEO Hazem Metwally said that that his company was pleased to develop a strategic partnership with TE that represents a success partner for Etisalat Misr in the Egyptian market. He added that Etisalat Misr was always keen, through such agreements, to provide the latest and best quality integrated services to its customers, using the most advanced technology in the global markets.

As events unfold, telecommunication companies became keen on keeping up with the events occurring all over the world. During the coming period, similar agreement would reflect on the services, offers and products that Etisalat renders to its customers for the first time in the Egyptian market.
