ICT Minister, Major US-ICT Firms Officials Discuss Establishing CoEs and Specialized Programs

    USA, 17 March 2017
The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady has held several meetings with major international ICT companies in Silicon Valley at the West Coast of the USA, where he discussed expanding their investments in Egypt and establishing partnerships and projects that contribute to developing the industry, promoting technology and building a base of calibers in advanced disciplines to prompt economic development.
Starting with HP Inc., ElKady has discussed strengthening cooperation in intelligent learning development, where he invited the company's officials to visit Egypt to learn about the Egyptian experience, examine the challenges and develop a framework for cooperation.  Cooperation entails developing a strategy and an integrated system of education and smart learning in Egypt, including manufacturing tablets, particularly for educational purposes. HP Inc. is an affiliate to Hewlett-Packard (HP), operating in the production of computer hardware, accessories and technological solutions.
The ICT Minister has also held another meeting with the officials of HP Enterprise —specialized in providing technology solutions and software in developing infrastructure and securing networks— where he discussed the latest cooperation developments between the global company and Telecom Egypt (TE), through the exchange of expertise in the fields of big data, cloud computing and the Internet of Things (IoT) services. He also discussed cooperation in the areas of network security, cloud computing technologies and smart city management.

Moreover, ElKady has met with General Electric Digital (GE) General Manager and Chief Commercial Officer - Americas, Mike Matlock and GE President and CEO for North East Africa Ayman Khattab, where they agreed to cooperate in the exchange of expertise and training Egyptian calibers in several areas, including the construction and development of applications and systems related to the optimal use of energy, and the creation of Centers of Excellence (CoEs) and a lab for the company in Egypt in the field of digital industries that serve all areas of economic development.
In this context, both parties agreed to pursue talks in another meeting to be held in Cairo to agree on systems required for the new Administrative Capital, supported by IoT applications. To support this giant project, a selected group of professional engineers will be trained to provide technical support for the data and information protection systems (cyber security).
Furthermore, ElKady has held a meeting with Walden C. Rhines, the Chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics— one of the leading electronic designing companies— where they discussed promoting the company's activity in Egypt through participation in the presidential initiative of training and qualifying technological calibers, aimed at raising the competencies of youth to find opportunities at internationally approved software companies. They also discussed the establishment of a CoE for embedded systems used in manufacturing automotive and a lab for reviewing electronic design industry in Egypt.
Recently acquired by the German group "Siemens", Mentor Graphic—through its technology products and solutions—aims to enable businesses to develop more effective products.
