    International Firms Promote Future Scientists Initiative

    During his official mission to Silicon Valley at the US-West Coast, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady has met with Dell EMC senior officials, where they showcased the company's latest technologies of software, cloud computing, and big data hosting and analyzing.

    A new collaboration was agreed between the two parties, where the Future Scientists presidential program is to be incorporated in Dell EMC future pioneer initiative. The Initiative comprises many advanced academic tracks, including providing training grants at one of Dell’s labs for a period of six months, aiming to provide trainees with technical skills. A similar lab is to be established, consequently, in Egypt. Dell acquired EMC Corporation in a deal valued at $ 67 billion in 2016 to form a giant technological entity serving major global companies’ needs.

    Meeting with Teleperformance CEO Brian Johnson, ElKady discussed the company’s strategy to expand its business in Egypt, particularly in terms of intercontinental services. They both agreed to employ 2000 young people before the end of the year, bringing the number of the company's workforce to 10,000 by 2020.

    During the talks, the ICT Minister highlighted the availability of Egyptian calibers, enabled in technology fields and possessing several languages needed by the global business community.  The two parties agreed to establish a specialized academy to polish up youth skills in languages and prepare them to work in outsourcing and call centers areas. In addition, Teleperformance was invited to establish a headquarters at one of the new technology parks in Egypt.

    Teleperformance is one of the largest outsourcing and call centers companies around the world and serves major international companies. It provides technical support, digital solutions and analyses in addition to other services. Teleperformance launched its business in Egypt in 2007 and currently employs 4,200 young calibers, providing support and outsourcing services. Egypt’s office is the second in terms of the company’s business size and number of employees, and the first in terms of the company’s annual revenues.

    ElKady, and his accompanying delegation, visited Orange at Silicon Valley, where he toured Orange Fab Lab, an incubator and accelerator that serves the community and the environment of Silicon Valley start-ups.  Orange Silicon Valley CEO Georges Nahon briefed the ICT Minister and the Egyptian delegation about the new technologies in the areas of cloud computing, smart cities and the Internet of Things (IoT).

    Egypt’s ICT Minister also talked about means to support startups in networking with investors and marketing their innovative applications in global markets. During the meeting, both parties agreed that the Egyptian side is to nominate a group of creative startups to benefit from Orange entrepreneurs program and join Orange Fab Lab at Silicon Valley.
