    ICT Minister Meets US Telecoms Officials within US-Mission

    § ICT Minister discusses establishing a center of excellence, at Egypt’s technology parks to support young innovators, and a data center to promote national projects

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady has met with Oracle General Manager and Senior Vice President Gary Miller and other executive officials, discussing establishing a center of excellence for Oracle at one of the new technology parks. The meeting is within the second day of the mission that the ICT Minister headed to the United States of America, accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior officials at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and affiliates, where he held a number of meetings with the executive officials of global US ICT companies.

    During the meeting, Oracle expressed its willingness to participate in this great national project in Egypt, where Miller pointed out that Oracle established two training centers in Borg El Arab and New Assiut Technology Parks.

    The ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation also met with SAP Managing Director Sam Yen, where they discussed the establishment of a data center to promote national projects implemented by the various economic sectors. They also discussed a proposed plan to invest in the Egyptian market, including offering the company's products and solutions, such as cloud computing, training, certifying, supporting startups and providing Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in smart cities. The meeting was attended by Telecom Egypt (TE) CEO and Managing Director Tamer Gadallah, the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) CEO Asmaa Hosni and other senior officials of MCIT and affiliates.

    SAP is an international company operating in developing advanced software, applications and databases for the business sector. During the meeting, Yen gave a presentation on the different activities of the company including areas of creativity and innovation, establishment of databases and data platforms and smart cities systems. On the sidelines of the meeting, the ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation toured SAP innovation and entrepreneurship center at Silicon Valley and learnt about the latest support programs for the technological creative startups.

    ElKady, and his accompanying delegation, also met with Kevin Hutchins, the Senior Vice President of Juniper Networks, a leading company in providing secure network solutions for all areas of industry and economic sectors. During the meeting, they discussed cooperation in the fields of training, cyber security certification and opportunities for joint manufacturing in Egypt. In this context, the company's officials hailed the positive work environment of Egypt’s ICT sector and incentives contained in the new investment law, particularly the privileges offered when investing in new technological parks.

    In his meeting with Synopsys Executive Vice President and General Manager Joachim Kunkel, the ICT Minister agreed with Synopsys officials on an executive action plan that entails the establishment of a training lab. The lab is to develop local technological calibers, in response to the growing industry needs of using tools and measurements in electronics designing areas.

    Synopsys is specialized in developing innovative electronic products and software applications and one of the 15 largest software companies in the world. Synopsys is a leading company in the field of designing electronic silicon chips, security software and quality solutions. The company seeks to develop technological calibers and invest in human resources.
