    ICT Minister Inspects Knowledge City in New Administrative Capital

    Cairo, 3 March 2020

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat inspected, today, the construction site of the Knowledge City, established according to state-of-the-art technology systems in the New Administrative Capital and dedicated for MCIT strategy for building digital Egypt.

    Talaat was accompanied by the Deputy Ministers, heads of affiliated institutions and a number of MCIT officials.

    The Knowledge City includes centers for research and technological innovation, specialized training in advanced technologies and offices of international and local companies and startups specializing in ICT.

    The ICT Minister started his inspection tour with the Knowledge City administrative building, where he listened to a detailed explanation of the construction and the current status of implementing phase one of the Knowledge City.

    Talaat underlined that the City comprises promising projects that light the way to build digital Egypt, and said that a broad base of experts and skilled calibers in ICT areas will be created through it. He thanked the Armed Forces Engineering Authority for its effort and the quick implementation of the project, before the expected timeline.

    Talaat added that there are regular and intensive follow-ups of the progress of the project, and highlighted the significance of paying regular field visits to ensure a proper implementation of the project to achieve the desired goals.

    Phase one includes four buildings: Egyptís informatics university, the first specialized ICT university in the Middle East and Africa, established in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This is in addition to a training facility, including a branch of the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) and the Information Technology Institute (ITI) affiliated to MCIT, with the aim to provide specialized training for young people on advanced technologies.

    Phase one also includes a building for Research and Development (R&D) in Assistive Technology (AT), as well as a building for innovation and applied research.

    During his visit, the ICT Minister inspected the connection path between the government data center and the government district, as well as the construction site of Egypt Postís new headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, that reflects authenticity and development. He concluded his tour with visiting MCIT building in the government district.

    Following his visit to the New Administrative Capital, the ICT Minister inspected Egypt Postís card issuing center, the most advanced center for issuing all types of e-payment cards in Egypt. He was received by Egypt National Post Organization (ENPO) Chairman Essam El-Saghir.

    The center is established to meet ENPO needs of smart cards, as well as the local and regional demand. Its production capacity reaches around 60K cards per day, making about 20 million cards per year. It is the only center in Egypt that has two Inline systems that diagnose cards, print welcome letters, and put them in envelopes, all at once, without human intervention, maintaining data confidentiality. ENPO Dual Interface cards are expected to be issued for the first time in April, as well.

    The ICT Minister, in addition, inspected Egypt Postís latest center, one of the most significant specialized printing houses. The center is equipped with the latest and most solid insurance programs for valuable prints, such as stamps and checks.

    This is in addition to an advanced software system to ensure a complete control of press management, including insured design processes, production stages, color quality and the product final stages.
