    Egypt Actively Participates in 20th Session of Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers Meeting

    Egypt participated in the 20th session of Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers Meeting, held on September 27-28, in Abu Dhabi, UAE, where the ICT Minister Yasser ElKady delivered a speech at the opening session.

    ElKady addressed a number of key topics that reflect the joint Arab cooperation in this field, including the significance of supporting the Arab candidacies for the membership of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Council of Administration (CA) and Postal Operations Council (POC). He also underlined the significance of concerted Arab efforts to unify candidacies to ensure strong presence of Arab countries in international forums.

    The ICT Minister also tackled the topic of the annual Arab stamp exhibition and the unified Arab stamp. This is in addition to other topics related to the ICT sector, such as following-up on regional and Arab organizations activities related to the Council's work, the Arab Internet governance initiative, “Connect Arab Internet Networks” project and the current status of the generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs), in addition to a number of topics of interest to the Arab region.

    At the beginning of the event, ELKady handed over the presidency of the Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers to the United Arab Emirates.

    The Council also tackled the discussion of how to strengthen Arab cooperation with other regional groups and organizations in the ICT field. The ministers reviewed the developments achieved in the Regional Forum on Arab Digital Content and the Arab Regional Smart Learning Initiative.

    They also underlined the significance of cybersecurity, fight against online-crime and terrorism, Internet abuse and Over-the-Top Content (OTT) applications. This is in addition to the empowerment of People with Disabilities (PwDs) via using ICTs.

    The ministers, at the end of the meeting, emphasized the significance of strengthening joint Arab cooperation in this area, which is in the interest of Arab countries in general and the Arab citizens in particular.
