ICT, Finance Ministers Discuss 4G License Arrangements

    Cairo, 8 May 2016

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady convened, today, with the Minister of Finance Amr Al-Garhi to discuss the arrangements of launching the 4G license, within the framework of the ICT sector development plan to improve the quality of telecommunications and internet services provided to citizens and maximize investments and treasury returns.

The meeting was before the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) Board of Directors' Meeting, due to be held this Sunday to agree on the details related to offering the licenses. Legal drafting is scheduled to be completed within two weeks, and launching the licenses of the four companies, operating in the Egyptian market, is expected within two months after the completion of all executive procedures.

ElKady stated that offering the 4G frequencies is a significant development in the ICT services provided to citizens. It represents a positive effect on the quality and speed of service, providing a number of services through them. He added that the four licenses will be offered for the four companies and their value depends on each company needs of available frequencies.

The Cabinet agreed, during its meeting last week, on authorizing NTRA to prepare the 4G licenses including the necessary financial, technical and regulatory obligations, according to the rules in force and stipulated in the Telecommunications Regulatory Law No. 10 of 2003.
