    ICT Minister Inspects Work Developments in Borg El-Arab Technology Park

    Alexandria, 7 May 2016

    - The ICT Minister witnesses Signing MoU with AASTMT to act as an academic consultant for technology parks to develop human resources and support innovation and entrepreneurship

    - Launching a university and an international school in Borg El-Arab city to be a center of knowledge and an attractive area for investments in the fields of technology innovation and entrepreneurship.

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady and the Governor of Alexandria Mohamed Abdel-Zaher, accompanied by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) CEO Asmaa Hosni, inspected work progress in the new Technology Park in Borg El-Arab (30 feddans), implemented in parallel with New Assiut Technology Park, to be completed according to the planned schedule by the end of the year.

    The inspection visit was within ElKady’s visit to Alexandria to participate in Techne Summit, organized for the second consecutive year by the Federation of Egypt Chambers of Commerce (FECC) at the Bibliotheca Alexandria (BA) on May7 –8, under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). During his visit, ElKady opened also Saraya Post Office after developing it to provide all postal and community services to citizens.

    In a related context, ElKady witnessed, also, the ceremony of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and the Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), to act as an academic consultant for technology parks in the field of developing human resource and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, during the first phase of the national project of developing technology parks at Borg El-Arab and new Assiut.

    The MoU, signed by ITIDA CEO Asmaa Hosni and AASTMT President Ismail Abdul Ghafar Ismail, aims to take advantage of all the potentials of ITIDA and AASTMT in developing the national project of spreading technology parks outside Cairo, through building strategic base of human calibers from youth graduates qualified in the fields of ICTs and innovation, and taking advantage of employment opportunities in various fields in technology parks.

    Under the terms of the agreement, AASTMT is to conclude cooperation agreements with all of the governmental and non-governmental universities and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to hold seminars to educate participants on industries available within technology parks and required basic skills. This is in addition to acting as one of the training partners in the region.

    ITIDA is also committed to cooperate with AASTMT in developing youth skills in the new cities, in preparation for qualifying them to work in the ICT industry or become entrepreneurs. This will be achieved through developing an integrated plan on implementing programs and initiatives in coordination with the concerned entities, marketing and promoting programs and initiatives designed to attract graduates and develop their skills, linking between ITIDA and AASTMT programs and initiatives.

    The Academy is committed to implementing a number of initiatives and programs designed to create a database aimed at linking university graduates in the fields of engineering, commerce, literature, law and languages with companies specialized in the ICT field through technology parks.

    The project includes identifying the geographic scope of governorates and neighboring cities for building technology parks, and assessing the key basic features of work for graduates and job seekers, while providing effective communication between graduates and companies operating within each technology park.

    The agreement also entails launching an initiative on establishing an integrated community for the development of innovation and entrepreneurship within the technological parks at the innovation cluster premises in Borg El-Arab and New Assiut. It aims at configuring and managing work groups of entrepreneurs and innovators from AASTMT and other universities, based on creating circles of communication among entrepreneurs community elements of universities, nonprofit organizations and funding entities for projects in each city.

    The agreement also covers holding seminars and panel discussions to discuss, develop and market different ideas and projects, providing graduate studies programs specialized in developing and preparing entrepreneurs in collaboration with various universities, and providing outstanding youth calibers in the fields of ICTs and high value-added services such as research and consulting.

    On the sidelines of signing the MoU, the launch of a university and an international school has been announced in the city of Borg El- Arab to become a center of knowledge and an attractive area for investments in the areas of technology innovation and entrepreneurship, in consistent with the main objective of establishing Borg El-Arab technology park.

    In a related context, the ICT Minister announced that MCIT is due to establish the third technology park in the Tenth of Ramadan City.
