§ The executive structure of the electronics industry initiative will be formed soon
§ 4G licenses will be offered to the four telecoms by the end of the year

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady has announced that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) is about to complete the launch of four new licenses to provide Internet services in the governorates over the next few weeks, two of which will be offered in Upper Egypt, and the other two in Lower Egypt.

In his speech during the meeting, organized by EITESAL Association under the title: "Meet the Government", in the presence and participation of nearly 200 Egyptian companies specialized in the ICT areas, ElKady has stated that the selection of these governorates was based on the studies that relied on population density and the extent of the Internet spread, in addition to the existing research conducted to curb illegal connections that cause companies to incur huge losses.

The ICT minister has added that MCIT has developed a time plan to complete implementing the first phase of the technological parks in Assiut and Borg El Arab in Alexandria, scheduled to be finished before the end of the year. Around 11 buildings are set up in each park to include five buildings for companies and MCIT entities such as the Information Technology Institute (ITI).

He has ascertained that these projects are within the framework of the State’s trend to encourage investment, develop economy and increase growth rates, especially that these parks will be equipped according to the highest level of technology. A number of other facilities will be offered beside these parks to attract investment, which MCIT is committed to before President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Moreover, ElKady has highlighted the need to work together as government and companies, to provide digital services that save time and effort for the ordinary citizen. He referred to the mobile 4G licenses that will be offered in the market before the end of the year for the four companies operating in the Egyptian market, in addition to other foreign companies wishing to invest in Egypt.

The ICT Minister has stated that the initiative aimed to design and manufacture electronics, launched by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo ICT, will reveal positive steps shortly, in terms of the executive structure of the initiative and the entities that will be in charge of electronics designing and manufacturing processes. He also added that Egypt’s electronics exports are expected to reach three billion dollars.

ElKady has added that MCIT gives due consideration to ICT companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which receive substantial support from the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) in terms of offering specialized programs and providing training and qualifying programs to those companies, which help to create jobs inside and outside Egypt.

He has also underlined the role played by EITESAL, as one of the most prominent civil society organizations, through its offices nationwide, as well as its role in disseminating electronics industry and training and qualifying young people.

For his part, EITESAL Chairman Hazem ElTahawy has ascertained that the association is working according to the sector’s vision and ambitious strategy to build the knowledge and technology society, which depends on creativity, innovation, training, policy-making and implementing programs. Eltahawy called on EITESAL member companies and the sector companies to contribute in meeting the challenges facing the community and provide the typical technological solutions for various sectors. He has added that the ICT sector is capable of, via its outstanding capabilities, to lead other economic sectors towards building a knowledge and technology community.
