ICT Minister Witnesses Signing Agreement between ITIDA, Andela

    Cairo, 5 November 2019

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has witnessed the signing of an agreement between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and Andela international.

The aim is to boost the company’s operations in Egypt through hiring at least 200 Egyptian programmers to work in exporting the software development services that Andela provides to its customers worldwide.

This came after Andela officially announced launching its operations in Egypt through establishing the first center run completely remotely.

The agreement was signed by ITIDA CEO Hala El Gohary, and Egypt Country Director at Andela Rama El Safty, in the presence of Andela Co-Founder and CEO Jeremy Johnson.

The agreement comes in parallel with the plans of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) targeting increasing the size of Egyptian ICT exports that reached 3.67 billion dollars last year, through attracting more investments and creating decent jobs for Egyptian young people.

El Gohary expressed her pleasure to work with Andela that develops skills and invests in African developers, qualifying them for international technology companies worldwide.

She also stated that ITIDA supports Andela’s investments in Egypt, through which the company gets to hire a number of skilled calibers. This is in addition to taking advantage of Egypt’s geographic location and its closeness to international markets, which promotes the software engineering services market and its growth in Egypt.

On her part, El Safty said that the Egyptian ICT sector grew significantly and is expected to grow bigger in the coming years. She added that the Egyptian government has been greatly focusing on driving digital transformation.

Moreover, El Safty commended the ICT Minister for attending the signing ceremony, and thanked ITIDA for its cooperation as Andela carries out its operations for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Andela started processing its work in Egypt in software engineering services 15 months ago. The company hired more than 80 senior software engineers from different governorates, working through Andela's remote work model. Engineers from Andela join engineering teams of leading technology companies around the world to help them develop products quickly and at an effective cost.

Andela’s initiative to work in Egypt reflects its keenness on developing its team including over 1200 software engineers in countries such as Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, and others. It aims to support technology teams in more than 200 major companies around the world.
