    During Visiting China, ICT Minister Witnesses Signing MoUs between TE, Chinese Companies

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, during his visit to China to participate in BRICS Future Network Innovation Forum, has witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Telecom Egypt (TE) and ZTE Chinese company on establishing an innovation lab and a technology training center.

    The MoU aims to create a work environment that promotes technological innovation among youth in areas including mobile networks, Next-Generation Passive Optical Network (NG-PON), and major data transfer networks, with over 100GB speed using fiber-optic cables.

    As per the MoU, ZTE will install the needed telecommunication systems and equipment for the center, and TE will provide all telecommunication services for these systems to ensure providing young people an educational content to support academic research in ICT.

    The MoU was signed by TE CEO and Managing Director Adel Hamed, and ZTE Middle East and Africa Chairman Darren Chou.

    ZTE specializes in developing fixed and mobile infrastructure, and providing various communication equipment, such as wireless communication systems.

    Moreover, the ICT Minister met with ZTE Chairman Li Zixue, where they discussed the company’s projects, strategic plans, and its activities and business in Egypt.

    They also discussed boosting the company’s investments in Egypt, and enhancing cooperation between Egypt and China in infrastructure and capacity building, in the framework of establishing a specialized ICT university and a Research and Development (R&D) center in Egypt. In addition, they discussed means of cooperation to achieve digital transformation.

    Following the meeting, Talaat took a tour in ZTE exhibition to explore the company’s latest techniques and technological solutions.

    Furthermore, the ICT Minister witnessed the signing of an MoU between TE and China Telecom on cooperation for transferring knowledge in a number of areas, including customer service, installing fiber optic cables to homes, namely Fiber to the Home (FTTH), and providing Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services.

    Hamed and China Telecom Executive Vice President Donald Tan Yi Jun signed the MoU.

    According to the MoU, the two companies shall cooperate to develop the operational model, to serve TE customers, and customer service systems. In addition, China Telecom will provide consulting services for developing FTTH plans and systems, and sharing best practices in providing IPTV services, to provide TE customers the best experience.

    China Telecom is growing in the global market, and is providing ICT services in more than 20 countries around the world.

    The meetings and signing ceremonies were attended by Vice President of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Hossam Osman, and a number of officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and TE.
