    NTRA, GSMA Sign MoU

    Barcelona, 2 March 2015

    During his participation in Mobile World Congress on march 2-5 March, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Atef Helmy has witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and GSMA-representing the interests of mobile operators worldwide-to promote cooperation in mobile phones development and its infrastructure.

    The MoU was signed by NTRA Chairman Hesham El-Alayli and GSMA Chief Regulatory Officer Tom Phillips.

    Helmy and Phillips held talks on latest ICT development in Egypt and measures ICT sector undertook to sponsor development and innovation in the field of mobile phones, in line with the mutual cooperation between both parties.

    They also discussed, during the meeting, the general framework of GSMA taking part in Egypt Economic Development  Conference (EEDC) which will be held during 13-15 March in Sharm el-Sheikh.

    Moreover, Helmy took part in the “Innovation Era” session that discussed the significance of the internet in the lives of people and government key role to support the internet. He highlighted the importance of emphasizing openness, security and stability of building internet that connects the whole world, and upon which digital and knowledge economy relies increasingly by world countries.

    He added that Egypt was paying special attention to support youth innovation and creativity in line with its deep belief of their vital role in building the future of modern Egypt.

    Mobile World Congress, hosted in Barcelona, is the largest global platform that gathers international ICT companies in the field of mobile phones and related industries and government officials to recognize—through discussions-latest technologies of this industry and confer means of development and investment opportunities, thereby shaping mobile phones industry trends in the coming years.
