    ICT, Tourism Ministers Discuss Cooperation to Develop Infrastructure at Ministry of Tourism

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Atef Helmy took part today in the international press conference held by Egypt's Minister of Tourism Hisham Zaazou through which the country’s achievements throughout last year were viewed.

    During the conference, means of cooperation between the two ministries were discussed as ICT is considered imperative in developing and marketing business and national projects, as well as building knowledge and technology bodies.

    Helmy said ICT plays a key role in applying electronic touristic services by means of activating systems and applications. Providing customers with ICT is one of the success pillars for any economic sectors, on top of which comes the tourism sector. He added that ICT and the tourism sectors have many partnerships and cooperation in many fields that aim to bolster the ministry of tourism in promoting Egyptian tourism worldwide.

    This is in addition to providing better services to tourists by offering service information and communications systems, provide attractive content, promote tourism in the coming period, enhance human capacity and computer training for employees of the ministry of tourism and use electronic marketing system to keep up with development in the field of international tourism marketing.

    For his part, Zaazou praised current cooperation between both sectors through which a number of projects—that have had resonated widely during the previous period—were implemented.

    He added that both parties were keen to continue this fruitful cooperation and he wished to see cooperation between all country’s apparatuses in the coming period.

    He has explained that electronic tourism are services provided by ICT that aim to promote tourism services through various open and closed networks, based on e-commerce principals.

    The concept of electronic tourism also means the use of electronic equipment like mobile phones, electronic notebooks, and also includes mobile tourism. ICT is, therefore, used by all partners in in the tourism sector whether institutions or individuals. ICT could be used in establishing tourism entities that require technology literacy, such as in smart hotels which operation depends on modern technologies.

    During the meeting, current projects between both ministries were viewed, as well as future cooperation. Partnership fields includes establishing a live streaming channel through which broadcasting is aired live on the Egyptian Tourism promotion Authority’s website for 15 touristic places in Egypt to convey the real picture of the country.

    This is in addition to using mobile applications in promoting tourism through creating a technological application that help tourists to acquire needed information to plan their trips to Egypt. Through the application, tourists can identify attractive touristic areas and learn how to reach them.

    Cooperation between both parties also include the project of enhancing search engine and using social media, and the project of creating websites to promote tourism campaigns by means of establishing  models for promotional touristic websites that aim to promote tourism by providing information about such campaigns.

    Each campaign aims to send a message to a specific country to visit a particular place in Egypt. Four models are to be designed: beach tourism, archeological tourism, city tourism and therapeutic tourism.

    Additionally, partnership between the two ministries include a project for establishing a modern digitized library, in coordination with the cabinet’s information center, that would allow the exchange of touristic books and publications with international libraries worldwide. The library endeavors to promulgate Egyptian tourism.

    Another project is applications of enhancing productivity initiative through which identifying and analyzing occupancy rate at hotels—a key indicator to the level of activity in the tourism sector in Egypt, as well as collecting data of all tourism companies in the country in one unified database, gathering touristic programs to study them and identifying different nationalities of tourists and their interests.

    Cooperation between the ICT and tourism ministries also include building interactive screens in touristic areas, creating an electronic library for the Egyptian Tourism promotion Authority, reviving the holy family journey in Egypt, creating a contact center for the ministry of tourism, activating the use of mobile technology, improving websites of the Egyptian Tourism promotion Authority on search engines and social media, creating an electronic website to document Nubian culture and training employees at the Authority to enhance their levels of performance.
