    ICT Minister, Russian Counterpart Discuss Cooperation in Electronics Industry during G20 Ministerial Meeting on Digital Economy

    Japan, 9 June 2019

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, on the sidelines of the G20 Ministerial Meeting on Trade and Digital Economy in Japan, met with the Russian Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Konstantin Noskov.

    They discussed enhancing cooperation in ICTs, and followed up on their discussions held during the Russian Ministerís visit to Egypt in March, heading a high-level delegation, including representatives of government and Russian companies.

    During the meeting, they discussed promoting cooperation in designing and manufacturing electronics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and capacity building in technological specialties. This is in addition to establishing partnerships with major Russian educational institutions, in the framework of the Next Technology Leaders (NTL) initiative for specialized training programs in data science and AI.

    Furthermore, the two sides agreed on cooperating in cybersecurity through studying the possibility of establishing a Center for Excellence (CoE) for cybersecurity in Egypt, jointly funded, to qualify Egyptian and African calibers.

    Talaat expressed his appreciation of his counterpartís invitation to visit Moscow in the coming period, to explore closely the Russian ICT sector.

    Relevantly, Talaat, along with the ministers participating in the G20 Ministerial Meeting, took a tour in the exhibition held on the sidelines of the meeting. They explored the latest 5G applications including telesurgery, as well as translation methods using AI.

    Moreover, the ICT Minister visited Cyberdyne Inc., specializing in robots and Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL). He also visited Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and explored Japanís contribution in the International Space Station (ISS).

    Talaat held a number of meeting on June 6 and 7, with Japanese officials, including government officials and representatives of companies, and academia, with the aim to establish effective partnerships in ICTs with the Japanese side. He also participated, over two days, in the G20 Ministerial Meeting.
