ICT Minister Attends SECC Celebration to Honor MSEs

    Cairo, 21 January 2015

The ICT Minister Atef Helmy has attended a celebration organized by the Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC)-affiliated to the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA)-to announce the end of round three of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) product development project, and distribute certificates for top winners.

Launched in 2012, the project enhances quality of products and services that ICT companies present to the society. It helps companies compete in local, regional and international markets.

ITIDA CEO Hussein El-Gueretly and SECC Director and ITIDA Vice Chairman Hossam Osman were among attendees.

Helmy has said that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) pays great attention to MSEs through ongoing support and activating local demand development program.

He has pointed out to the main role of these companies in the development of the ICT sector in Egypt and meeting the demands of the local and regional markets of technology products, representing the core of the industry.

For his part, El-Gueretly has referred to the significance of MSEs role in innovating and creating new ideas for products, applications and software through market research to know prospect customers, and study potential effects on current products and advantages of new ones.

Osman has explained that the third round of the project has been marked by the presence of customers for most participating companies who are eager to use targeted products.

SECC, in cooperation with MCIT, worked on linking companies with customers of government entities, a key step to answer local demand needs, as well as providing governmental reference and more business for participating companies. During this round, the company is required to register its products on the e-project market www.mseproject.com.eg.

A group of SECC experts evaluated products of companies that applied in the program. Applications and systems in different fields such as tourism, health, education, cloud computing, mobile applications, integrated systems, web applications and institutional resources planning were assessed. The evaluation was undertaken gradually along the project’s duration to make sure of its quality.

ITIDA allocated a budget of 20 million Egyptian pounds to support products of companies that applied for the project.

A number of 293 ICT micro and small enterprises requested support for their products, of which 172 were accepted since the launch of the third round last April. In the past three years, the project supported 323 companies which developed 550 products in various fields.
