    ICT Minister Witnesses Signing MoU between ITI, VMware in Capacity Building

    Cairo, 16 April 2019

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Information Technology Institute (ITI) and VMware International for software, cloud computing and network solutions, in the presence of Country Manager of Egypt, North Africa and Levant at VMware Ahmed El Saadi.

    The MoU aims at enhancing cooperation between the two sides to build youth capacity and qualify them to work in cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and network solutions.

    Talaat underlined the significance of cooperation with international companies to benefit from their experience in building youth capacity in different technology fields, in the framework of the main pillar of the strategy of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), which is building the Egyptian citizen.

    This will help create a broad and diverse base of qualified calibers, trained on the latest technologies to meet the ICT industry requirements, on both national and global levels, as well as contribute to build a sustainable local industry.

    The MoU lasts for two years. It stipulates cooperation in developing the trainees’ technical skills, in the framework of the pillar of MCIT strategy, pertaining to human resources development and the role of the International Technology Companies Academy.

    Cooperation includes training 50 students in the field of training of trainers, on annual basis, within VMware CTO Ambassadors program, and providing training programs for 150 trainees at ITI on VMware program’s online content and courses.

    This is in addition to organizing technical conferences and workshops for trainees at ITI, to introduce technological trends and their impact on the future industry needs, as well as organizing an annual hackathon on one of these trends to hone the trainees’ skills.

    Furthermore, the MoU stipulates that the two sides collaborate to implement “Masarak” initiative launched by ITI to raise the university students’ awareness of current and future jobs and identify the required technological skills.

    Cooperation, also, comprises providing the technical material and certificates through VMware IT Academy digital platform, and the jobs description through ITI “Mahara Tech” platform. Visits to VMware premises in Egypt will be organized for 150 trainees on annual basis, to explore closely the company’s technological products.

    Moreover, the two sides shall collaborate to provide online training through ITI digital academy, and establish an innovation and training lab for the company’s services and technologies to provide applied training services.

    The MoU was signed by ITI Chairwoman Heba Saleh and Managing Director of Middle East, Turkey and North Africa at VMware Ahmed Auda.

    VMware headquarter is located in California, US. It operates in software, cloud computing, and network solutions. In cooperation with Dell Technologies, VMware established a center of excellence (COE) in Egypt to support digital transformation operations for clients all over North Africa and the surrounding areas.
