    ICT Minister Meets UAE-TRA Director General during World Government Summit

    Dubai, 12 February 2019

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, during his participation in the World Government Summit in Dubai, on February 10-12, met with the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) Director General Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori. They approached the practices to support cooperation between Egypt and the UAE in the ICT field. More than 4000 leaders, officials, policy makers, and experts from over 150 countries participated in the summit.

    They emphasized the depth of relations between the two countries in all fields, especially ICTs. A number of topics of common interest were discussed as well.

    During the meeting, Talaat stated that Egypt aims at launching a range of government e-services through several portals in 2019, in addition to building a non-paper participatory government system in the new Administrative Capital.

    He represented the major projects that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) implements in collaboration with the agencies and institutions in Egypt to achieve the digital transition and link all databases to help provide complete services to citizens. A comprehensive health insurance system is also to be developed to ensure offering them a better health service. He pointed out that Egypt is working on digitalizing the Egyptian online cultural content, aiming to preserve the cultural heritage in the digital age.

    Talaat added that the ICT is one of the most growing sectors in Egypt, where a number of projects are implemented as part of a specific strategy to develop the communications infrastructure and industry. Such projects will help achieve the economic and social development and provide distinctive job opportunities for young people.

    He also highlighted the initiatives that MCIT undertakes to build capacities. This includes launching a digital academy to provide interactive training for young people in the Arab world, through video recorded lectures in Arabic, in specialized fields including cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, data science, and block chain. In addition, Egypt is working on implementing the African App Launchpad initiative to encourage creativity in games and digital applications, thus helping strengthening cooperation with African sister countries.

    The two countries agreed to cooperate to enrich the Digital Arabic Content (DAC), and implement the African App Launchpad initiative. Cooperation involves running a range of programs to enable the digital methods, serving the creativity of youth in e-games, improving the quality of products, and encouraging young people in innovation and business leading, in addition to establishing companies in this field.

    The meeting was attended by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Acting CEO Maha Rashad and MCIT Director of International Relations Division, Mohamed El Gawsaky.
