    ICT Minister, Andela Officials Discuss Cooperation to Build Capacities of Software Developers in Egypt and Africa

    Cairo, 15 December 2018

    The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has received a delegation from Andela ó a specialized company in building the capabilities of software developers in the African continent. The delegation was headed by Andela Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Christina Sass. The meeting was attended by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Acting CEO Maha Rashad and Andela-Director of Expansion Strategy Sabrina Roshan.

    During the meeting, Talaat welcomed the executive steps taken by the company towards setting up a headquarters in Egypt in cooperation with ITIDA to prepare Egyptian calibers in the field of software and IT services, thus providing job opportunities for them at various international companies. He highlighted Egypt's interest in supporting African youth to enable them to enter national and international markets and polishing their skills in the ICT field, which President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has highlighted during "Africa 2018 ForumĒ, hosted in Sharm El-Sheikh. He, also, added that efforts must be made to bridge the gap between the promising developers in Africa, labor marketsí needs and the international companiesí growing demand for talents.

    During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the efforts and initiatives of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and its affiliates in building capacities of young people and polishing their skills. These initiatives entail the presidential initiative which aims to train more than 10 thousand Egyptian and African young people on the development of digital applications and games and establish about 100 African startups. The meeting also discussed cooperation prospects to help a large number of beneficiaries and trainees benefit from this initiative in cooperation with various African countries. This is in addition to discussing the possibility of establishing a regional training institute for the company in the City of Knowledge in the New Administrative Capital to serve the African continentís young people and enhance and build their capabilities in the field of software development.
