ICT Minister Witnesses Signing Cooperation Protocol between NTI and Huawei

    Cairo, 5 October 2018

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has witnessed the ceremony of signing a cooperation protocol between the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI), affiliated to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Huawei Technologies- Egypt, to train 100 fresh graduate engineers on the latest ICT technologies, related to the Fourth Generation (4G) technologies and Long Term Evolution (LTE), which is one of the latest standards of wireless communication in the world. Graduates are to be granted accredited certification from the international company “Huawei”.

The agreement is within the framework of NTI strategy to provide specialized calibers in the ICT fields to meet the needs of companies operating in the Egyptian and global market and provide specialized technical advice in this area. NTI is one of the largest international expertise houses and training institutions specialized in the ICT field, contributing significantly to creating unique job opportunities for highly skilled youth.

During the meeting, Talaat highlighted MCIT keenness to qualify Egypt’s young people, to be always at the forefront and fully aware of the latest technologies and applications used by developed countries, thus keeping abreast of new technologies. This is in addition to refining their technological skills in these areas, required by domestic and international markets. He pointed out that Egypt possesses young promising calibers, able to absorb all new developments in these advanced technologies. They also participate in developing such technologies, increasing their efficiency to meet our needs, and activating them in the form of technological programs and systems that effectively contribute to providing technological solutions to all the challenges facing the society.

For her part, NTI Acting Director Eman Ashour said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by the two parties stipulates that the two parties are to cooperate in providing training and developing the technical skills of the ICT engineering graduates in Egypt. Huawei Technologies Co. will provide a specialized training course at NTI premises, through its specialized trainers, on LTE technologies for 100 trainees, to be selected by NTI. Distinguished trainees will receive a job training as well as a priority to be hired at Huawei International and other Huawei's partners in the region.

According to the agreement, Huawei will also provide an integrated online e-lab for providing training on Huawei equipment at Huawei headquarters. She added that NTI will be responsible for selecting outstanding trainees to join Huawei LTE courses. Candidates should be students at only Egyptian universities or new graduates.

“Since its inception in Egypt 19 years ago, Huawei has been keen to support the development of the Egyptian ICT sector by providing its expertise in the latest global technologies, and designing several training initiatives for engineers, for our belief that the strength and development of this country lies in providing opportunities for its young people to learn global technologies, thus increasing their competitiveness and eliminating the knowledge gap between what is taught and the latest technologies that the labor market needs." said Terry Liu, CEO of Huawei Egypt.

Huawei will provide 30 training opportunities, aiming to employ certain trainees at Huawei international or its partners at the local, regional or global level for one month per year until the end of the two-year agreement. The three-month training period will be extended for the top three trainees.

LTE is a broadband technology, with one network based on Internet Protocol (IP), designed to effectively support communication based on data packet, developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to be included in the 4G standards, which makes the network structure flat, and with fewer components, to enjoy high speed.

The MoU was signed by NTI Acting Director Eman Ashour, and the Public Affairs and Strategic Communication Director Hala Aranda at Huawei Technologies- Egypt.

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, the ICT Minister, NTI Acting Director and Huawei Egypt CEO honored NTI engineers who won the first place in Huawei International Training Program "Seeds of the Future", organized by Huawei International at the People's Republic of China during 14-29 September 2018, where Chile, Ecuador and Bolivia have participated in the program as well.
