    Egypt to Participate in WEF's Annual Meeting in Davos

    Cairo, 27 January 2009

    A high-level Egyptian delegation encompassing Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel and Minister of Trade and Industry Eng. Rachid Mohamed Rachid is heading today to the Swiss city of Davos to participate in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

    The meeting, due to be held from 28 January to 1 February, 2009 under the theme "Shaping the Post-Crisis World," is addressing the impact of the world financial crisis on the global economies and how to face it.

    The world financial crisis has become the focus of attention in all sectors contributing to the WEF meetings in Davos, hoping for formulating ideas and visions after reconsidering the economic systems currently followed.

    Russian Prime Minister Mr. Vladimir Putin along with his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao are scheduled to open the annual meeting in the presence of 42 heads of state and government and 36 ministers and heads of central banks from allover the world.

    About 3,000 figures from 96 countries are expected to take part in this years forum, 70% of whom are businessmen. 

    Minister Kamel will hold talks with Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Information Society and Media. He will also meet leaders of Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), heads of international ICT companies like HP, Huawei, Siemens, Google, France Telecom, Alcatel-Lucent, Vodafone, Intel and Microsoft to discuss means of boosting their investments in Egypt.

    Minister Kamel is also scheduled to give a speech in a session on adopting and spreading the technology required for developing economies. He will also contribute to a session about an international initiative on building up education via IT as an incentive for economic and innovative growth. In addition, Dr. Kamel will take part in a roundtable discussing the future of ICT and media.
