    Dr. Kamel Presents Egypt's Public Private Partnership Experience at WEF in Davos

    Cairo, 29 January 2009

    Minister of Communications and Information Technology presented today at World Economic Forum (WEF), held in Davos, Swizerland, the Egyptian experience of public private partnerships (PPP) in the ICT sector.

    In a forum session on the new era of public private partnerships, Dr. Kamel show cased the Egyptian successful PPP model which is being applied in the ICT sector together with the positive impact of the sector’s restructuring on the Government, companies and citizens.

    During another session entitled "From Adoption to Diffusion: Technology and Developing Economies," Minister Kamel shed light on Egypt's ICT initiatives like that of the Broadband to spread internet services nationwide and the use of 3G applications to achieve this purpose, especially in remote areas. He also referred to the "Egypt PC 2010 – Nation Online Initiative" and the utilization of ICT tools in developing education and health care services.

    Meanwhile, Dr. Kamel held a number of meetings with heads of international companies. He discussed with Siemens AG CEO Mr. Peter Loscher means of raising the company's investments in Egypt as well as focusing on health care quality enhancement via ICT.

    Minister Kamel also met Google Vice President of Corporate Development Mr. David Drummond where they reviewed the possibility of increasing Arabic content on the web, the company's investment potentials in Egypt in the field of Arabic content digitization as well as finding economic models in this domain.
    In addition, the two parties discussed the issue of internet security awareness dissemination.

    Separately, Dr. Kamel held talks with Alcatel-Lucent CEO Ben Verwaayen, conferring the executive steps of Alcatel-Lucent's investments in Egypt and the establishment of a technology innovation center.

    Also Dr. Kamel convened with heads of the Chinese Huawei, France Telecom and leaders of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
